It all changed in June 2014, after a sudden death of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and a surprising appointment of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new monarch of the powerful and influential state.
The presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party had no choice but to accept the decision of the people of Kano, congratulated the new Emir.
Beginning of July 2014 marked the end of the legal battle "Sanusi Lamido Sanusi vs Goodluck Jonathan, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police".
