Mr. Ayeh, who was rusticated from the university where he was
studying medicine, went ahead to practice as a medical doctor and is not
in police net
A former medical student, Mr Adams John Ayeh, has
been arrested by the Kwara state police command for parading himself as
a medical doctor.
Ayeh, a former medical student
of the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, was rusticated by the
institution on academic grounds in his third year.
The
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ambrose Aisabor, told
journalists at a press briefing that the suspect was arrested while
soliciting clients at the Civil Service Clinic in Ilorin
“On
interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying he was a
rusticated student of University of Maiduguri in Borno State,” Aisabor
said.
'I am not a doctor'
'Dr.'
Ayeh who confessed that he was indeed rusticated "as a result of poor
academic performance” claims he was wrongly arrested because he is not
practising.
“I don’t go about practising, I just
came to the Civil Service Clinic with my wife and the Police arrested me
with this stethoscope on my neck. I bought it when I was in medical
school.
“It was the medical officer who came out
and found the stethoscope on my neck that challenged me for using a
stethoscope within his territory that led to my arrest.
According to him, owning a stethoscope is not a justifiable reason for arrest.
“If
you ask people they will tell you that medical students in their third
year are allowed to own and use stethoscopes," he said.
But
Ayeh will have to save his defence for the court as the Police
commissioner further revealed that he would be charged to court once
investigations were concluded.
