Abia state government has distributed nearly 2000 laptops to schools
in the state as is seeks to boost ICT literacy among its youths
No fewer than 1778 laptops were distributed by
the the Abia State government as part of its plan to improve computer
education in the South-Eastern state.
Governor
Theodore Orji of Abia state said his government was bought the computers
from the Independent National Electoral Commission in its bid to bring
modern technology to Abia youths.
“The donation is geared toward the enthronement of excellence in the school system.
“The
world is now in the era of science and technology and the state cannot
be found wanting when others are already ahead,” the governor said.
While
stating the importance of education to societal development, Governor
Orji encouraged parents in the state to embrace the opportunity provided
by his government's free education policy and send their wards to
school.
Abia State's Commissioner for Education,
Dr Monica Philips, emphasised the need for Information Communication
Technology (ICT) education
“For education to be meaningful, ICT must be made to drive the sector,’’ Phillips said.
The Abia government also gave out about two million exercise books to all the primary schools in the state.
