In the United States, the whole world knows that the first Tuesday of November in every four years the Presidential elections takes place. It has never changed, at least not in the last Century. In Britain though no specific Date like that of the US, but the Parliamentary polls comes around every five years except for a snap election as is akin with the Parliamentary system of Government.

So why the uncertainties regarding the 2015 Election: the fifth in the series since the return to Democracy in 1999? But Professor Jega came out with the Time-table months ago, so why the fears? Are the fears misplaced or on point?
It is a fact that in the history of the country’s electioneering process, no polls have taken place without bloodshed. True? Nigeria has never been so enmeshed in this level of insecurity. Nor have bombings gone up with reckless abandon as it is now. The question I always asked, how and when did we get here? How feasible is the 2015 Election, I asked again? With scores of Youth Corpers killed during the 2011 Elections with less bombings, how saved are they this time around?
Can a credible, free, fair and bloodless election take place come 2015? Hell no.
I am not trying to be pessimistic or sound alarming, but again, I asked how feasible is the next Elections? Let us assume you were in the North-East, would you queue up on Election Day? Did I say North-East? Is the bloodbath and carnage not beyond that landscape? Is Professor Attahiru Jega planning a party that would not hold?
There is no point dwelling so much on the level of insecurity because, we have all come to a conclusion that the Terrorists are simply raping us in broad daylight with our security forces and Government seemingly hapless and helpless! So let move away from this and dwell on something different.
What else could prevent the Election? Someone asked. Yes, there is something else or better still someone that could prevent the most pivotal election. Didn’t we listen with awe to Okon Osung, a South-South delegate in the ongoing National Conference
when he ranted that the extension of the tenure of the President by 18months? He said the proposal for postponing the 2015 Elections for 18months was to “take the wind out of the sail of coup enthusiasts and proponents and thereby deny them the excuse of plotting coups” What an audacity! Who gave him the temerity and effrontery to canvass such? Is that not what we called abomination?
The question pops up again, how feasible is our Election come 2015? I know some would say ignore him, but the truth is that is how it always starts. The question pops up again, how feasible is our Election come 2015? I know some would say ignore him, but the truth is that is how it always starts. Have you forgotten the 3rd term agenda? How did it start?
Back to Osung, seriously what on earth was his rationale for making such ludicrous balderdash? Is he alone in this call? You know the story of a dancer and a drummer in the bush. Who is beating the drum that Osu is dancing to? But with such insinuation coming from someone part of a conference with the mandate of restructuring Nigeria, then what amount of restructuring are we expecting? May I remind Chief Osung that we are now a democratic enclave where periodic election is a sine qua non and he should stop drawing us backward.
Forward ever and backward never!
