According to the available information, at least 22 persons
were killed when unknown gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen,
attacked communities in Mavo village of Wase Local Government.
Also during the attack, which is said to have occurred in the early hours of of Thursday, ten houses were burnt.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen stormed the villages at about 2 am.
It
has been gathered that this development caused hight tension in Wase
town as youths of the community started a protest against the killings
but were repelled by security operatives.
The eyewitness identified as Nangak said the attackers came to the village in their hundreds and started shooting sporadically.
Wase
LGA had been under attacks for a long time as the Taroh and Fulani in
the area had been at loggerheads over a period of time.
The
interim administrator of the LGA, Mr. Zakari Haruna, who spoke to
newsmen on the telephone, confirmed the attack. However, he refused to
provide the number of people killed in the attack.
The Police
Public Relations Officer in the state.Felicia Anselm, confirmed the
attack but said she had not been fully briefed on those killed.
She said, “I am yet to get the details of the incident. I am expecting the field reports from our men on the ground.
