Côte d’Ivoire approves 35bn CFA for housing?

Ivoirian Prime Minister Daniel Duncan says the government has approved 35 billion CFA to tackle housing problem in the country.
Duncan, who spoke in Abidjan on Thursday at the inauguration of the second phase of the government’s social housing programme, described housing as a major challenge.

“The government has decided to come all out to tackle the problem of social housing; it is an issue that must be tackled in the interest of the citizenry,” he said.
The prime minister called on banks and other private partners to support the government to realise the objective of providing adequate housing.
“We need every stakeholder to join hands with government in the realisation of this objective; housing is a crucial issue that deserves our collective input,” he said.
Duncan said that the programme was open to both citizens and non-citizens who could afford to fulfill the conditions for acquiring the houses.
He said that the second phase of the housing programme was expected to benefit some 150,000 families.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the first phase of the programme, which began in March 2013, recorded 60,000 beneficiaries.
NAN also reports that provision of housing is one of the campaign promises of President Alassane Ouattara.
