Before Save Rivers Group (SRM) - a pro-Governor Amaechi group - was
formed, the minister of Education Nyesom Wike have been going about to
local governments in the state with what he calls GDI, campaigning in
the name of President Goodluck Jonathan with live coverage by NTA, yet
nothing happened.
But as soon as SRM came out, the Police in Rivers State headed by CP
Joseph Mbu started getting a strange and questionable "security report"
that always make him stop their rallies. In fact, last week, a new group
that is against Governor Amaechi blocked the major high way, but there
was no "strange security report".
Anyway, now that APC has directed its men in National Assembly to block
all Bills from President Jonathan if sanity is not restored in Rivers
State, the Nigeria Police headquarters has finally intervened...
The Inspector General of Police Muhammed Abubakar on Friday, after a
long silence, directed CP Mbu and his boys to give protection to a rally
by the Save Rivers Movement that will take place on Saturday.
Two previous rallies held by the group were disrupted: the first by the
police who fired into the crowd, injuring Senator Magnus Abe; and the
second by militants allegedly sponsored by the PDP.
But, did the IG need to give an order from Abuja before CP Mbu will
provide police protection for a rally? Is this not a clear sign that the
Commissioner of Police is highly biased and should be removed?
